Roosie is doing a study on the Little House series. To start off she is reading Little House in the Big Woods (after our break). We will be notebooking and other activities. I thought I would share with you some links where we find our resources. Enjoy!

Gearing Up For School

Now that I have a break from Summer classes I am working on the finishing touches for our upcoming school year. I have a love / hate relationship with school planning lol. I love the thought of a new school year but sometimes the details can get very "boggy" and I feel like I'm in a rut. It will pass though; it always does. This year I will have a 6th grader and a 9th grader. My eldest son goes to our church school and my eldest daughter graduated last year. We will be doing lots more nature study per requests of Roosie my 11 year old. I will be posting more links on the pages here for neat sites that I find for all subjects so be sure to check them out.

While working in our flower bed last week we found an interesting  tenant under a flower pot; a black widow spider. So that will be the first subject of our nature studies.I found a great info link here BLACK WIDOWS ; its from our local university. I think you will find it very informative especially if you live in Tennessee. Also the ironweed and goldenrod is already beginning to bloom here so we will do a study on that too. Sometimes we follow the Outdoor Hour Challenge using the Handbook of Nature study but we also kind of go rogue with it sometimes and pick our own thing that catches our eye. We use different websites and things for our info too. I found a great book, ABCs of Nature at our library's book sale for a $1 and it has been a great tool.

I try to find some free lapbooks or notebooking pages to use with our studies. If I can't find any ,then I make them. I encourage you as a homeschool family to buy either Microsoft Word or Print Shop software. They are both excellent tools for making worksheets.Worksheets I make I will post on my HSLaunch page. If you are not familiar with that site please go check it out. There are some really great printables there.

Thanksgiving Lapbook ~ FREE!

I finally got to upload the Thanksgiving lapbook to HSLaunch. You can find the link to it on my right sidebar in the HSLaunch widget. I hope you all enjoy it. Also be sure to check out the Thanskgiving notebook pages I have on HSLaunch too. What is everyone's plans this year for Thanksgiving? We will be having family over for lunch. I look forward to it but not to the pre holiday cleaning :) I will be posting some book reviews begining in December. I have recieved some great books to review and I will also be having a book giveaway so be sure to check back in December. We are going to be adding some Thanksgiving units to our school work and of course we will be doing our lapbook. This week through Thursday all the Ripleys attractions are free to Sevier County residents so that means we get to go to the auqarium and museums tomorrow if everyone gets over this new crud that came to visit. Is everyone voting on the Homeschool Blog Awards? I have seen some great blogs on there.I'm happy to see some of the ones on there that I nominated too. Just goes to show that you all have at least three readers LOL. I would appreciate your vote in the Homeschool Moms category if you don't have another favorite. Also I bet my DD BabyGirl would love your vote for Best Teen Girl blog. Anyway, it is time for me to get busy again. The First Day OF Fall! Yeah!

 

It's finally here! Autumn! Don't you love it?           There is just something about it that makes me smile. Ok , there are lots of things about it that make me smile:) To celebrate this lovely season I created a lapbook for us to do  and I thought I would share it with everyone. You can download it here at my HSLaunch page. It is the Autumn Lapbook. I have another fun thing to add later today. It will combine two of my favorite things, poetry and Fall so be sure to keep tabs on the blog. Hopefully I will be able to post later today . If not then I will post it tonight. Honeybee Lapbook

Good morning everyone! I wanted to share a lapbook with you that I made for our homeschool. I had such a fit with my file host removing my files all the time that I finally started a Yahoo group to put them on. The lapbook I uploaded this morning is about honeybees. Lapbooks

We have been working on lapbooks for Science and Social Studies / History . This is the one we are making for the American Revolution and the Constitution . It's not finished yet ... but soon :) The red folder folds out will hold all of our stuff for the Constitution . We should be finished with our study next week . I used the free templates and stuff at HomeschoolShare and Homeschoolhelperonline . I also used my Printshop program . We just started working on our weather lapbook yesterday but I thought I would post a cover picture for you for inspiration . I also started a new blog , Over Hill and Under Hill , where I am posting pictures and stuff of our Family's travels . Have a great day everyone !
